The Tennessee Valley Authority is putting out the call for applicants, as they’re once again offering their STEM Classroom Grants to their service region.
The application process opened on August 1and will run until September 15 and TVA Spokesperson Adam May says it’s easy to apply—a teacher or school administrator for both private and public schools can go online to TVA.com/STEM, and have a chance of being awarded up to $5,000 to fund a project.
May says he wants to see more applicants from the western Kentucky region, so local students can have more educational opportunities.
Todd County got two $5,000 grants during last years awards, as did Gateway Academy with Christian County Public Schools—May says that money went towards their Unmanned Aircraft Systems courses, which is beneficial in numerous career paths.
The STEM Classroom Grant Program is set to provide $1.5 mill to fund STEM learning projects across the TVA’s seven state service is area, and is sponsored by the TVA in partnership with the TVA retiree organization, Bicentennial Volunteers, Inc. There were 715 grant applications received during last year’s cycle, and 343 were selected for funding.
Preference during selection is given to applications that align with the TVA’s primary focus including energy, environmental stewardship, community problem solving, career development and economic development.
