United Southern Bank launches Brandon Oldham Memorial Scholarship for CCPS student athletes

By News Reporter Gabby Cedano

To support student athletes pursuing higher education, United Southern Bank is inviting them to apply to the newly created Brandon Oldham Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship honors Oldham who served as the branch manager and the loan officer at the bank’s Canton Pike location before he passed away at the age of 41 in a motorcycle accident in September 2025.

Oldham was a 2002 graduate of Christian County High School. He was a four-year varsity basketball starter, helping lead the Colonels to multiple district championships and a regional championship in 2002, along with a trip to the Sweet 16. He also excelled in track, helping set several relay records and contributing to a state championship in the 4×4 relay.

He later attended Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee, where he graduated in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration before beginning his career at USB.

The scholarship recognizes student athletes who demonstrate dedication to both academics and athletics, while also contributing positively to their school and community. Two seniors from Christian County Public Schools will each receive $1,000 to help support their continuing education.

Eligible applicants must attend a Christian County Public School and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. In addition to academic achievement, the scholarship looks for students who show dedication to athletics, have a strong sense of character and are committed to balancing school responsibilities with sports.

Students applying must submit a completed application along with a 500-word essay describing a lesson they have learned through sports that they will carry into their future. A letter of recommendation from a coach, teacher or community leader is also required. The recommendation should spotlight the student’s athletic ability, teamwork, character, leadership and academic attributes. The applications can be found here or on the United Southern Bank website.

Recipients will be selected by the United Southern Bank Scholarship Committee, and the funds will be paid directly to the student’s college or school. Applications and all supporting documents must be submitted by April 3, 2026.

Applications and supporting documents can be sent to Martha Steil, Director of Human Resources at United Southern Bank, by email at msteil@usbky.com or by mail to PO Box 951, Hopkinsville, KY 42241.
