Lovers of the supernatural and the extraterrestrial are invited to Visit Hopkinsville’s first-ever GoblinCon UFO and Paranormal Expo in October.
When she was named Executive Director of Visit Hopkinsville, Amy Rogers says she knew she wanted to spotlight some of Hopkinsville’s extraterrestrial history.
In 1955, the Hopkinsville police station was swarmed with reports of people saying they had a close encounter with extraterrestrial beings in the Kelly community. The incident later became known as the Kelly Green Men Encounter.
Members of the Kelly community would host an annual festival spotlighting the alien encounter, but during the COVID-19 pandemic the festival ended. Rogers says Hopkinsville extraterrestrial history is important, and looks forward to revitalizing the story of the Kelly Green Men at GoblinCon.
Along with learning about the Kelly encounter, Rogers says they will have panels and special guests talking about the Bell Witch, the Beast of Land Between the Lakes, Bigfoot and much more.
For the kiddos, Rogers says they are going to have an outdoor Kids’ Zone and a game room with arcade games and board games. There will also be a cosplay competition, so folks are invited to dress up in their best alien costume.
GoblinCon will include a wide variety of food and merchandise vendors, and Rogers says they are still looking for more. Along with vendors, Rogers says they are looking for more volunteers to ensure the event runs smoothly.
Along with all the fun, Rogers says they are also focused on giving back to the community. During the event, Rogers says they will be hosting a food drive for the Aaron McNeil House, a local nonprofit that provides food for those in need. Those who donate will be put into a raffle to win some prizes.
GoblinCon takes over the Bruce Convention Center on October 17 and October 18. General and VIP tickets are available at goblinconky.com.
