Erin Westerfield was sworn in as the District One Representative for the Christian County School Board at their workshop meeting on Thursday.
Westerfield was sworn in by Christian County Circuit Judge Andrew Self after being appointed to the role in May following the resignation of former board member Jeff Moore in April. Before swearing in Westerfield, Self shared that it was an honor to swear her in and she will be a great addition to the board.
According to a press release from the school system, Westerfield is a graduate of Muhlenberg North High School and the University of Kentucky and has three children attending Christian County public schools.
Taking on the role, Westerfield says she believes strong public schools grow future leaders as well as a strong workforce. Westerfield will fill the position until the November general election which she has filed candidacy for to retain the seat.
Continuing with the meeting, the board approved the school system’s partnership agreement with Studer Education and a lease for a new building for Bluegrass Learning Academy II.
Studer Education is a consultation organization that will provide the school system with feedback regarding employee engagement, parent and caregiver satisfaction, student engagement and district support services.
The board then approved signing a new lease agreement to relocate Bluegrass Learning Academy II and to terminate the lease agreement for the alternative program’s current location. Director of Student Services, Kim Stevenson says the transition is occurring because the student body has outgrown the current building.
While the current building has four classrooms the new building will have eight. Stevenson says the academy will transition to the new location by the beginning of the upcoming school year where it will remain until it can be transitioned to the consolidated Christian County High School.
