With only minor chances for rain this week, drought conditions expected to worsen

While it might be meteorological fall, someone might have not told summer that, because it’s going to continue to dry out and be warm heading into September.

While there will actually be some rain chances in the forecast this week, so says Meteorologist Justin Gibbs with the National Weather Service in Paducah, those chances aren’t very high. And whatever rain did fall, would likely be in pretty low amounts.

That means that our drought—since this region just wants to experience all weather extremes in 2025—will only continue to worsen, with now moderate drought conditions creeping across Trigg and Christian counties.

Gibbs says the deepening drought conditions brings with them an increased risk for brush and wild fires, with many counties already issuing burn bans.

The trend seems to continue in the 8-to-14 day outlook, with above average temperatures in store and near normal or a little less, chances for precipitation in the forecast.
