Woman charged following Eagle Way collision

A Hopkinsville woman is facing several charges following a collision on the Eagle Way Bypass Saturday night.

According to the Christian County Sheriff’s Department, it happened around 9 p.m. near the intersection of the Pennyrile Parkway and deputies observed individuals standing outside of the vehicles. Contact was made with 46-year-old Penny Rushing of Hopkinsville, who was reportedly slumped over in the driver’s seat.  She allegedly displayed extremely slurred speech and delayed reactions and refused to give consent to search the vehicle.

A K9 Unit reportedly alerted on the vehicle and a search revealed several pills that were not inside a proper container, a small bag of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Rushing allegedly became enraged and attempted to walk into traffic and attack a deputy.

She was arrested and charged with attempted assault on a police officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, first-offense DUI and several traffic violations.
