Schools across the Tennessee Valley Authority service region are thinking of cleaner air and savings on energy usage, after they were awarded grants from the TVA recently to help them achieve just that.
Through the TVA’s School Uplift program, those schools—including Lewisburg School in Logan County—will be able to use that funding to save an average of 10 percent on their energy bills annually through behavioral changes alone, along with enhancing lighting, heating and overall efficiency in existing builds.
Lewisburg School received $210,000 through the program, and Principal Grant Warren says this program will not only have a tremendous impact on the building, it’s also acting as a learning opportunity for their students.
Energy Champion Jessica Cardwell thanked the TVA for helping uplift their school and empower their students to be leaders in the future.
TVA Spokesperson Adam May spoke more about the School Uplift program during this week’s TVA minute.
This year’s participants will save an estimated 5.5 GWh of energy—enough electricity to power 18,000 homes for a month. To choose the selected schools, a needs-based assessment was conducted that determined which facilities could achieve the greatest energy savings.
