With mostly sunshine and little chances for rain in store this week, drought looks to deepen

We hope you like sunshine, because there’s a whole lot of it in store for very likely the next two weeks, with only occasional chances for showers and thunderstorms.

That’s according to the National Weather Service in Paducah, with Meteorologist Daniel Spaeth says it’s a remarkable stretch of calm weather in store for the region, with ample sunshine and temperatures in the 80’s possible. He says a stray thunderstorm can’t be ruled out, especially Tuesday night, but there’s no real risk for severe weather that they can see right now.

And that’s likely to stay the case all the way through the weekend and into next week, with Spaeth saying there’s not hazards highlighted for anywhere in the country during that time frame, which may very well be unprecedented for this time of year.

While that outlook may be great for your nervous system, it’s not so good for our drought conditions, which only continue to deepen, with all of western Kentucky under extreme drought. Spaeth says that’s fairly concerning, as that’s means we are heading into our driest season already crunchy.

In the 8-to-14 day outlook, it’s looking like more of the same, with data showing above average temperatures and slightly above average chances for precipitation.
