The roadway is back open to residents on State Route 175 in Muhlenberg County following a gas leak and fire on Monday that caused an evacuation and a large emergency response.
It happened around 9 p.m. in the Graham community on June 1 when a fire began on KY 175 that was sparked near a gas leak from a BP pipeline. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze following a lengthy response effort, and crews were able to get the pipeline leak under control.
As of Thursday, an update from Muhlenberg County Emergency Management says air monitoring is taking place and has detected no air quality issues. There has also reportedly been no indication of product migration.
Now, the evacuation order has been lifted—while KY 175 will remain closed to through traffic between KY 62 and Bards Hill Road, the road has been reopened for residents only.
The pipeline that was behind the initial incident was shutdown on Monday and will remain so for the time being. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
