Murray State engineering student participates in NASA summer program

Murray State University junior Christopher Puckett is studying aerospace engineering, and he recently participated in NASA’s weeklong RockOn Event.

According to a press release from the university, students and faculty in the program worked to build sounding rockets that would be launched into space from the Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia.

Assistant Professor of Engineering Dr. Tyler Stoffel was contacted concerning the program and was asked if any students would like to attend. Stoffel says Puckett has always shown a big interest in aerospace engineering and thought he would be a great fit for the program.

Puckett, who is from Metropolis, Illinois, described attending to program as a dream come true and says he has always wanted to be a part of something NASA-related. He says the most rewarding part of the experience was seeing a rocket launched that included a Geiger counter he and his team built to measure radiation.

In the future, Puckett says he hopes to work at NASA and wants to also help create hands-on opportunities for students who are interested in engineering.
