As we set our sights on the ‘dog days of summer’, it certainly will feel that way to start the work week, with an Extreme Heat Warning in effect.
Luckily, this heatwave isn’t expected to be an extended one, as Meteorologist Kate Hickford with the National Weather Service in Paducah says the Extreme Heat Warning will linger through Tuesday morning, which is when Christian and Todd Counties will exchange it for a Heat Advisory.
There’s some debate on if our heat index values will top out at 115 degrees or 120 degrees, but Hickford says it doesn’t really matter—it’s going to be dangerously hot.
After Wednesday though, Hickford says temperatures become more run-of-the-mill and with no current severe weather in the outlook, it should be fairly calm to close out the week.
There is a chance for more storm development to occur Monday night into Tuesday, but Hickford says confidence in that happening is low. If any storms did develop, the main hazards would be damaging wind and heavy rainfall.
