A man is facing numerous charges following a high-speed pursuit in Hopkins County Saturday.
According to the Madisonville Police Department, officers were patrolling on I-69 in the area of the 108 turn around, when they reportedly observed a vehicle driving recklessly and attempted a traffic stop. The driver allegedly ignored the officers’ lights and continued on, allegedly almost running other vehicles off the road and almost striking law enforcement vehicles.
The pursuit eventually came to a stop on Highway 601 after spike stripes deflated the vehicles tires.
The driver, identified as Melvin Wilcox, was reportedly manifestly under the influence and was taken into custody. A search of the vehicle reportedly revealed cocaine and items of drug paraphernalia.
Wilcox is charged with fleeing or evading police, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, operating on a suspended license, DUI, and several traffic violations.
