A contractor working for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will be applying a high friction treatment to portions of KY 189 and US 62 in Muhlenberg County starting this week.
According to a news release, high friction surface treatments are pavement treatments designed to increase friction in potentially high crash areas, resulting in motorists being able to maintain better control in both wet and dry driving conditions.
A research report published by the Federal Highway Administration suggests that HFST reduce wet crashes by as much as 83 percent and total crashes by 57 percent.
Truesdell Corporation will be applying HFST to a segment of US 62 in Central City around the 16-mile marker near Walmart, and on a section of KY 189 in Greenville at the 11-mile marker near the North Main Street intersection.
The project is expected to be completed within two weeks. Motorist should prepare for lane restrictions during this period.
