For their last meeting during the school year, the Christian County School Board recognized graduating seniors, received a superintendent capstone presentation and approved issuing a bid for exercise equipment on Thursday.
The board recognized graduating seniors that made up the district’s class of student ambassadors and the Senior Students Superintendent Advisory Council. Secondary Instructional Supervisor, Kadi Ralston talked about some of the responsibilities of the 14 student ambassadors such as attending school and community meetings, being a voice for students and being the student face for the school district.
Student Ambassador and Board Member, Kylie Batts shared that through their engagements as an ambassador she and her peers have learned valuable experiences that will help them beyond high school and have positively contributed to district public schools.
After the ambassador recognitions, 26 graduating seniors who served on the advisory council received certificates and graduation cords. The students on the council were responsible for providing their insight for Superintendent Chris Bentzel regarding changes that would affect students.
Regarding the students recognized at Thursday’s meeting Board Chair, Tom Bell says he appreciates the work they have done and knows that they will succeed in whatever path they decide to take following graduation.
Bentzel then provided a superintendent capstone presentation to highlight his accomplishments over the academic year. Some of his accomplishments included the breaking ground for the consolidated Christian County High School, launching the Christian County Schools Education Foundation, improving 2023 state assessment scores and working toward receiving more state grants.
Bentzel says county public schools had a good year and pointed toward the work of graduating seniors that were recognized at the meeting as an example of some of the great work that has been done.
The board then discussed and unanimously approved putting out a bid for football training and weightlifting equipment at Christian County High School. High School Principal, Kevin Crider says the current equipment they have is outdated and the new equipment would also be used by other athletes and physical education students.
With high school students set to move to the consolidated Christian County High School in the next few years, Crider says the equipment would be able to transitioned to the new school.
After approving issuing a bid for the equipment the board went into closed session for the purpose of preliminary discussions regarding Bentzel’s evaluation as superintendent.
