The Western Kentucky State Fair is full steam ahead as we head into Thursday, with Christian County Farm Bureau Day bringing the first of the truck and tractor pulls to the grandstands.
And the numbers stay up this year in the way of attendance, with 4,060 people going through the gates Wednesday, which is goodly ahead of last year’s Wednesday, which saw 3,512 individuals visit.
Farm Bureau members will be able to get into the fair for free today until 6 p.m. as long as they have their coupon to show, which Fair Board member Preston Rives says can be picked up at the CCFB offices.
There will be a 4-H/FFA Sheep Show taking place, along with a Pedal Pull competition in front of the convention center at 6 p.m. and then an Antique Tractor Parade taking place there at 7 p.m. Thursday brings the Farm and Altered Farm Tractor and Truck Pulls to the grandstand and Rives says it get several days of pulling started.
It’s only $5 to get into the grandstands and fair admission remains at $3 per person. He says the weather has been a little tricky this year, starting with rain and storms and now an extended heatwave, but he’s been happy to see that people haven’t been scared off from the fair.
He says they’ve tried to make it special this year in honor of the fair’s 75th anniversary, and he says they still have specialty cups and anniversary t-shirts available for those who want one.
Thursday is a $25 unlimited ride armband night, with gates opening at 4:30 p.m. and it’s Trivia Night in the air-conditioned convention center, with “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader” hosted by Ginnie Pruitt starting at 7:15 p.m.
