Wonderfully Made Workshop hosts art auction fundraiser spotlighting the derby

To continue providing artistic outlets for those in the community with physical and intellectual disabilities, Wonderfully Made Workshop is hosting a Kentucky Derby inspired art auction.

Stephanie Harton leads the Wonderfully Made Workshop and shared that the organization aims to provide opportunities for meaningful work, fellowship and artistic expression for those with disabilities. The nonprofit collects donated jewelry, which is then turned into art pieces and ornaments.

Recently, participants made pieces for the nonprofit’s “Finding Our Stride” series. Harton says the series celebrates the Kentucky Derby and has 14 pieces, which includes a variety of horse silhouettes embellished with jewelry.

The pieces are currently on display at the Alhambra Theatre, and Harton says those interested in purchasing a piece can bid for it online. She says funds from the auction will support the nonprofit’s work, and they are also trying to expand to allow more individuals to come and create art.

Harton says they have multiple community partnerships that work to support the nonprofit’s mission of serving those in the community who are sometimes overlooked.

The online auction concludes on Saturday at 8 p.m. Those interested in taking home one of the pieces can submit their bids at zeffy.com.
